New York Justice Task Force Issues Report on Bail Reform
Following an in-depth study and many months of robust debate and discussion, the New York State Justice Task Force today released a report setting forth its recommendations for bail reform, an issue that has garnered increased attention in New York and throughout the country.
Today’s report which builds on a statement issued by the Task Force last March that endorsed a presumption that defendants facing misdemeanor and certain non-violent felony charges be released without bail ̶ clarifies which non-violent felony charges should not be included in the presumption of release, as well as which aggravating circumstances could cause that presumption to be denied.
